2. Where did you meet ALiNA PiCCOLiNA? I met Alina Piccolina through its amazing creator Rosangela Crispino & I have had the pleasure of meeting her lovely niece, that the story line is based on.
3. What do you think makes ALiNA PiCCOLiNA different from anyone else? Alina Piccolina is different in a wonderful and interactive way that it is based on real life experiences and memories (author’s & her family & friends), educating its audience not only in the Italian language but also its culture & history. It’s important to teach language with the cultural & historical component so that it has a context for the student to understand & gain an interest into another country which is so far away.
The Italian language is beautiful and very accessible if taught in an interesting, exciting, interactive & fun way. At this level, so many language texts for young children don’t have the personal or cultural context and much of the vocab or language taught in primary schools is based on covering the basics : numbers, colours, greeting, etc… without the context. The students will also grow with Alina as she gets older and learns more.I believe Alina Piccolina has a more holistic approach, involving the personal, cultural & historical, to help teach the Italian language.
I met Alina Piccolina during the New Venture Institute ‘Venture Dorm’ program in 2018.
I think Alina Piccolina differs from other books because Alina is educational while still being fun and within a beautiful and colourful book. She is relatable to kids who are finding it difficult to find their place growing up within a culture different to their heritage. Alina Piccolina is a fun, learning resource that helps kids navigate through this tricky time while educating them in a fun way about their heritage.
Alina Piccolina is made with love, you can feel it on every page?

I met Alina Piccolina on the launch night of Alina Piccolina at the envision Limestone coast presentation.
Alina Piccolina has a uniqueness of her own representing the relationship, love and adventures of Alina Piccolina and her beautiful Zia. ❤️❤️
I met Alina Piccolina through the author, the talented Rosangela Crispino, as she takes us on journey through her hometown, reflecting on her Italian heritage.
What makes Alina Piccolina? I think the love for her culture makes her so special. It is so important to always celebrate our culture. Cultural celebrations foster respect and open-mindedness for other cultures.
Celebrating our differences, as well as our common interests, helps unite and educate us. To understand other’s perspectives, to broaden our own, and to fully experience and educate ourselves is something we need to do more. Well done Alina Piccolina for reminding us to keep that family culture alive. Our culture is what shapes us, it shapes our behaviour and our identity.

I met ALiNa PiCCOLina at Venture Dorm course in Mount Gambier and it is where I fell in love with the idea and only wished it was around when I was younger
ALiNA PiCCOLiNA is so different but so relatable to most families and children, it brings to life the Italian heritage like nothing else has, particularly to all of us who has never been to Italy. It’s a fun way for everyone to enjoy the different adventures it takes you on. I love it, I studied Italian in primary school and only wish it was around then to reinforce what we were learning.
This one is AWESOME!!!
This is from my grade 1 teacher back in 1973 at North Gambier Primary School who, to this day IS my favourite teacher and I still see occasionally as she’s based here in Mount Gambier
Question 1
I taught Rosangela in her first year of school in Mount Gambier, a country town in South Australia, in the early 1970’s. She was one of a very small number of children with a different cultural background in my class. This was a time when cultural diversity was not recognised, understood, and celebrated as I hope it is now. The difficulties that a child with a different cultural heritage might face ,especially growing up with 2 languages was just not understood. I can see looking back now, why it is so important to Rosangela to make sure children understand and celebrate ,the culture and language and heritage of their country and of others.
Question2
I first met Alina Piccolina , when Rosangela presented her wonderful concept for a book, to celebrate and inform others about her Italian heritage, at the eNVIe Awards. I thought it was a wonderful way to engage young readers of all cultures.
Ann (Mount Gambier)
Question 3
I think there are a few things that make Alina Piccolina unique.
The people and the places are real. The main characters are Rosangela and her niece Alina. The concept is so strongly based on Rosangela’s personal belief that her Italian heritage , language, and culture are such an important part of her and should be recognised.
She wants to share this gift with children in story form, sharing experiences from her own family traditions, in a way to educate children and to tempt them to find out more.
I believe this book , is just what Rosangela needed when she was growing up.

Well done to Roz and your team of clever illustrators for creating a book that keeps strong Italian traditions alive for the next generation to enjoy. ALiNA PiCCOLiNA’s content is original, fun and informative, it will help create strong ties between
Rosangela’s ancient Calabrian lineage through to her deep roots in Mt Gambier.
I met Alina Piccolina at the presentation of the Incubator Awards, when Rosangela gave an engaging and inspiring presentation of this little girl and her aunty. Rosangela and Alina were voted the People’s Choice Award Winner
What makes Alina different from anyone else?
Part of Alina’s charm is the ordinary and daily that becomes amazing, as she travels with V’ronica Vespa to parts of Italy to discover her ancestry
and Italy’s story.
The intertwining of the English and Italian language gives an extra dimension to the adventures and the bond between Zietta and Alina. Zietta
is a believable mentor figure and the extra activities and language practice form an interesting addition to the story, adventures and cultural
experience.
The illustrations are bright, inviting and engaging
